Calling All Democrats

A "VOTE AT HOME" campaign for the Primary on August 24th and for the General Election on November 2nd, 2010 is under way. Colorado for example had a 97% vote at home result in the last election.  Please consider changing your voting methods.
Organizing for America strongly suggests that this is the way to win this election!! We have a chance to elect an all Democratic Cabinet for the State of Florida! Absolutely nothing was accomplished for Floridians during this session in Tallahassee. The right wing Republicans made sure of it. Please support your Democratic candidates. Simply call the Supervisor of Elections office and request a ballot at 772-226-3440. Your ballot will be sent to you three weeks in advance. Or e-mail voteindianriver.org for a form. Also call the Democratic Headquarters for candidate information, voter registration, and most importantly
Amendment information. Vote Yes on Amendment 5 & 6 for Fair Voting Districts.

Every 10 years, in conjunction with the census, the boundaries of our congressional, state House and Senate districts are redrawn. Districts are supposed to be drawn to be roughly equal in population and connected geographically. They should provide equal opportunity for all voters to elect representatives of their choice. Regrettably, the re-districting process has been hijacked by the politicians to insure the re-election of incumbents.
The Republican-dominated Florida Legislature has repeatedly passed legislative redistricting plans whose main goal is to maintain it’s majority. In the last six years, there have been 420 elections for state senators or representatives. Isn’t it amazing that only three incumbents have been defeated?
Democrats, independents, tea partiers and all fair-minded citizens must get behind proposed amendments 5 and 6 to the state constitution that set standards for legislative and congressional districts. These standards insure the creation of fair districts, where all voters can make a real choice. Don’t let the elected politicians decide for you who should be elected by gerrymandering your district to ensure their re-election.
In Florida, 1.65 million voters signed a petition to place amendments 5 and 6 on the November ballot. It’s unbelievable that the final day (April 30) of this past legislative session, 25 self-serving senators and 74 equally disingenuous House members managed to pass their own rules for redistricting designed to ensure their re-election.
It’s time for all voters, be they Democrats, Republicans, independents or tea partiers, to vote “Yes” on amendments 5 and 6 and put a stop to this gerrymandering.
